PRETORIA, South Africa – The South African-built Ford Ranger has been made even more attractive with the introduction of a chromed styling pack for its XLS models.

At no extra cost… (prices at end of file). There are 31 Ranger models in Ford’s South African catalogue ranging from the single-cab to the Ranger Raptor high-performance off-road bakkie.

The Ranger XLS, Ford SA says, slots between the workhorse base and XL models and the well-appointed XLT and feature-rich Wildtrak at the premium end of the scale as what the automaker calls ”the ideal middle ground for all manner of applications”.

The includes commercial, farming, family and lifestyle.

The new Chrome Styling Pack adds ”styling flair” to the 10 XLS models which includes Single Cab, SuperCab, and family Double Cab body styles.

Doreen Mashinini, Ford SA’s marketing manager, told The Corner: “If value-for-money and bang-for-buck are the primary purchasing considerations the Ranger XLS is exceptionally hard to beat.

“It delivers the ‘Built Ford Tough’ capability for which the Ranger is renowned but adds a level of upmarket sophistication and eye-catching style from the premium models in the range.

“The styling pack adds about R20 000 worth of styling and feature upgrades  with no increase in the recommended price. Add this to the standard Ranger’s comfort, convenience, and safety features unavailable or extra-cost on competitors and it positions this model in a unique space.”

In place of the grey matt finishes previously on the XLS models the nose has a bright chromed trapezoidal grille with two horizontal bars. Chroming also covers the exterior-mirror housings, door releases, rear-step bumper and tailgate release. Also present is a stainless-steel sport bar and high-mounted brake light.

17-inch six-spoked alloy wheel rims already used on the Ranger XLT are a no-cost option on the XLS with a choice of silver or gloss-black finishes – again, no price penalty.

The Ranger XLS range carries a range of Duratorq turbo-diesel engines and all units have cruise control, daytime running lights, auto screen wipers and headlights, front and rear foul-weather lights, a rear-view camera with parking sensors, and a high-grade Thatcham anti-theft system.

The Ranger XLS will be delivered with a four-year or 120 000km warranty and service plan. Service intervals 15 000km and each unit will have three-years of roadside assistance.
