New electric Mini: 135kW, 150km/h – got R450 000?


WOODCLIFF LAKE, New Jersey – Mini US has announced prices for its all-new battery-powered Mini Cooper SE due go on sale in early March 2020 priced (in the US) at $29 900 – about R450 000!

Michael Peyton, vice-president of Mini US told The Corner in a media release: ”US pricing of the new Mini Cooper SE was set to establish this new battery electric as a class leader – making premium electric mobility more accessible.

”We at Mini are pleased to offer more people a drive charged with passion in the form of the Mini Cooper SE, an EV built “for the drive”.”


The Cooper SE is said to make electric mobility more “Mini” by maintaining the cars’ authentic design, handling, and fun found in every Mini assembled since the brand was created by Sir Alec Issigonis in 1959.

The electric motor driving the front wheels makes 135kW / 269Nm – enough to take the car to 100km/h in 6.9sec and top out at 150km/h. Read more details here.
