Haval H1: Modestly priced SUV for the average family

JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng – When buying your first, or even second, family car or buying to suit your budget the list of must-haves is usually short thanks mainly to price. This doesn’t have to be the case, according to Haval, with its H1 SUV tagged at R184 900 (VAT included).

On board are anti-lock, all-disc, brakes, two crash-mitigation bags, child-seat anchors and childproof door locks.

A rear window demister, height adjustable headlights and front and rear foglights work with daytime running lights – and parking is made easier with radar.

Immobiliser and central locking are standard but come with a vehicle locating function to help you find it in crowded mall parking.

ROOF RAILS

The H1 has 185mm of ground clearance and rides on 16” alloy wheel rims. Roof rails for luggage are standard and a trip-data computer will update you trip info and a  steering-wheel with audio, cruise control and Bluetooth are standard.

Cupholders and a cargo curtain help keep things organised, as do the separated foldable rear seats with a 60:40 split that provides extra luggage space. There are also power windows, auto air-con, a CD player and Bluetooth.

Motive power comes from a 1,5-litre petrol engine designed with for fuel-efficiency and 69kW/130Nm transmitted through a five-speed manual transmission.
