ATLANTA, Georgia – Porsche US has completed its Macan (apparently a Javanese name for a tiger) series with a sporty GTS launched in the US with a powerful engine, performance-orientated chassis, characteristic design, and enhanced equipment.
A 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine delivers 280kW (marginally more than its predecessor) spinning an adapted PDK dual-clutch transmission – together capable of 0-100km/h in 4.7sec, or to the same speed in 4.5sec with the optional Sport Chrono package – capable of 260km/h.
The new Porsche compact SUV family has already earned the abbreviation GTS (Gran Turismo Sport) thanks to its driving dynamics. Air suspension (standard on this model) can drop the chassis by 10mm and that, combined with the standard 20” RS Spyder Design wheel rims and cast-iron brakes (360x36mm front, 330x22mm rear), lets the new Macan GTS impress with the agility and responsiveness of a sport car.
Diode headlights and three-dimensional diode tail lights are also darkened. The rear also gains black accents – one of them a diffuser – and the tailpipes of the standard sport exhaust system.
The sport seats have eight-way adjustment and thick bolsters though an optional GTS interior leather package with red or white stitching come with BOSE audio and a smartphone tray includes a charger. Parking radar, aided by cameras, a heatable windscreen and ionizer are options.
The 2020 model-year Macan GTS is expected to reach US dealers mid-year with prices starting at $71 300.
