HANNOVER, Germany – Initial sketches of the 2020 VW Caddy van/MPV have been released with a claim that the images are a preview of how the all-new delivery van could look.
”No screw has been left untouched,” VW says. ”The new Caddy will again be the benchmark in the A segment of commercial delivery vans and family MPVs.”
Sketches from the early development of the new Caddy, the automaker says, indicate that many aspects of VW commercials will be different in 2020.
‘MORE SPORTY STYLE’
”The concept drawings of the panel van variant of the Caddy underline a new self-confidence in the functional and practical vehicle class. The draft design shows possible configurations: everything different, but still with a high cargo capacity and great variability.”
VW says an example of a more sporty style in the segment is indicated by the slightly sloping roof and the ”sculpturally shaped” sides – with the new Caddy ”showing a lean, one-piece, design”.
”It can be assumed,” VW told The Corner, ”that in future more customers involved in sport and active leisure pursuits will consider the new Caddy an interesting and, practical alternative.”
The images show the Cargo version of the coming Caddy with several pointers to the production van, among them the more vertical slim rear diode lights which will also appear on the passenger car version.
The concept vehicle also shows an apparently larger rear window – ”significant for the passenger variant”.
”In line with customer wishes,” VW says, ”the commercial versions of the new Caddy will also have a non-transparent tail door and continue to offer swing doors as an option.”
Larger wheels, a narrower radiator grille, and a larger logo are also listed as elements.
