VALENCIA, Spain – Nissan says its ”world-leading expertise” in electric vehicle propulsion and ”top-class motorsport experience” have melded to create a Nissan Leaf Nismo RC – said to be ”a showcase for the power, innovation and excitement of Nissan electric vehicle technology”.
The latest all-wheel-drive sport cars have more than doubled the maximum power and torque of their predecessors which were based on the first-generation Leaf and revealed in 2011; 240kW and 640Nm instantly available and capable of 0-100km/h in 3.4sec.
The Leaf Nismo RC is not just for show, its maker says: ”It’s also a test bed for technological evolution and showcases the potential of Nissan electric vehicles. It explores what can be achieved with an all-electric twin-motor and all-wheel-drive.”
UNIQUE CONCEPT CAR
The Leaf Nismo RC is said to clearly shares its advanced technology with the Leaf road car – which claims to be the world’s most popular EV with 450000 sold since 2010. It was caught for photographs at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia, Spain.
Michael Carcamo, Nissan’s global motorsport director direcyor, told The Corner through a media releases: “Nissan’s experience as a pioneer in electric road vehicles combined with Nismo’s more than 60 years of motorsport innovation, led to the conception of a unique car.
“For Nissan, the ‘E’ in ‘EV’ also stands for ‘Exciting’. We created the Leaf Nismo RC to amplify the fun-to-drive aspect of electric mobility, raising the thrills offered by EVs to a new level.”
Instant acceleration is said to be a feature of every Nissan EV: ”All-electric powertrains,” the automaker says, ”give a thrilling driving experience complemented by intelligent design and advanced connectivity.
”The Leaf Nismo RC demonstrates the power and performance of electric vehicles – a key component of Nissan Intelligent Mobility.”

The powertrain in the Nissan Leaf+ increases range by 40% – tempting for distance sceptics. Continued are Nissan’s ProPilot tech and e-Pedal mode – the latter for one-pedal driving.
”The Leaf e+ delivers an enjoyable driving experience,” Nissan asserts, ”which allows its driver to start, accelerate, decelerate and stop using only what would otherwise be merely an accelerator pedal.
