JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Lexus SA says it is offering potential ES 300h customers a new standard of value, technology and elegance in the form of an all-new hybrid derivative in EX model grade for 2020.

The full model range now consists of the entry-level petrol ES 250 EX, the new ES 300h EX, and the ”exceptionally well-specced” ES 300h SE.

ES 300h customers will now be provided with greater choice, thanks to the competitively-priced EX grade delivering the same excellent power and drive as its SE sibling.

Each hybrid has a new self-charging hybrid drive that delivers exceptional fuel economy, responsive performance, and minimal emissions for a luxury sedan.

An all-new feature across the ES 2020 range is a revised infotainment system which now includes Apple CarPlay2 and Android3 Auto compatibility as well as free wi-fi connectivity for all occupants under a “Connect” banner.

”The range-wide fitting of enhanced smartphone integration,” Lexus says, ”complements the expansive 20cm centre display. This Lexus Premium Audio system comes with 10 speakers and a Digital Audio Broadcaster (DAB) which allows the broadcaster signals to change without interruption.

The new ES 300h EX has been specced to much the same level as the ES 250 EX, including pasrking radar, reversing camera, 17” cast-alloy, multi-spoked, wheels, moon roof (tilt and slide), rear spoiler (standard on 300h EX, not 250 EX) as well as diode low- and high-beam headlights.

The diode units require less energy, which translated to fuel economy.

”The EX grade’s cabin,” its maker says, ”combines traditional Japanese aesthetic, Takumi craftsmanship, and impressive build techniques. The EX is available with three standard Nulux (fake leather) interior options and bum-warmers for driver and front passenger.

”A three-dimensional pattern is applied to the shiny black trim.

Safety tech includes a full suite of passive crash-mitigation equipment: driver and front gas bags, two driver and front passenger knee bags; two driver and front passenger seat-mounted side impact bags and two front-to-rear curtain bags.

A rear-view camera with parking radar and all-speed active cruise control are also fitted.

Lexus sales and marketing Glenn Crompton added: “Expanding the ES 300h line-up was a natural extension for a luxury sedan that has had a good market share for hybrid sales through 2019, commanding a 39% market share of all hybrid and electric sales in the premium sector.

“The greater number of Lexus customers buying this luxury sedan can now enjoy the luxury of choice, supplemented by range-wide connectivity.”

The ES 300h exclusively uses a Lexus self-charging hybrid electric system that combines a 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder petrol engine working with an electric motor to produce, together, 160kW and the ”combined-cycle” fuel burn can reach 4.6 litres/100km.
