SEOUL, South Korea – KIA Motors has revealed the first official images of its next version of the Sorento ahead of its first public appearance at the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show.
The designers, KIA said, sought to maintain the robust aesthetic of earlier models ”while applying a greater degree of refinement and elegance”.
The cars’ redefined design uses sharper lines and uninterrupted surface to, its maker says, ”make it noticeably more sculpted than its more round-edged predecessor”.
”With more contemporary geometric details and swept-back, elongated proportions, KIA says, the result is a more confident, more mature, and more desirable design.”
The nose has yet another interpretation of well-recognised ‘tiger’s nose’ grille which has been made wider to wrap around the integrated headlights. More eyes appear as diode daytime running lights.
”In profile,” KIA says, ”the proportions of the Sorento have been subtly adapted to make the car seem longer thanks to shorter front and rear overhangs and a longer wheelbase. Its new proportions also extend the length of the bonnet, drawing the A-pillar 30mm further back from the front axle for a more ‘cab-rearward’ design.”
The trailing edge of the bonnet wraps around the front wings and turns into a single character line which extends along the side of the Sorento and flows into the new vertical tail lights.
KIA says the Sorento is the heart of what is becoming a ”reinvigorated” global SUV lrange: the others are the new Seltos, Stonic, and Sportage and is the result of a collaborative effort between all three studios within KIA s global design network – Korea, Europe and North America.
This the fourth generation is based on an all-new platform and said to have raised standards in the mid-size SUV segment for space, practicality, efficiency, and quality.
”The new Soreento,” KIA emphasises, was designed and engineered to take on everything life can throw at it. It will have its debut on March 3 2020 when further specifications will be released.
