CREWE, England – Bentley Mulliner has just released for ordering its 2020 Grand Touring Continental GT Mulliner Convertible – said to be the top model in the Continental GT family – and units will be on view at the coming 2020 Geneva auto show.
Exclusive features are said to include a unique Double Diamond grille, new Mulliner 22″ wheel rims, contemporary technical finishes, and a hand-made and installed Mulliner interior that invoLves 400 000 stitches through the fine leather upholstery
Bentley told The Corner, via a media release, that the new drop-top was created ”to appeal to people who want an even greater focus on beautiful details”. The headlights, said to be ”cut-crystal inspired, frame a new ‘Double Diamond’ grille.
The ‘Double Diamond’ design is said to have been inspired by the home industry of quilting and covers all four seats, the door casings, and for the first time the tonneau cover. The quilting pattern, Bentley said, ”include contrast stitching in two complementary colours to accentuate the thread against the quilting”.
”That involves almost 400 000 stitches,” the automaker says,”with each diamond containing 712 – each precisely aligned to point to the centre of the diamond it creates. Developing the process took 18 months.”
The Bentley badge on each all-new, 22”, 10-spoked, painted and polished, wheel remains horizontal no matter its host’s rotation speed.
Bentley Mulliner says it has combined traditional and modern coachbuilding techniques to create features: a contrasting diamond-milled technical finish for the centre console, finished with a silver Breitling clock.
It’s set in a quartet of chromed bulls-eyes – a theme carried from physical to digital with the LED instrument panel using the same brushed finish.
The cabin also has mood lighting: seven themes, emphasisedby illuminated Mulliner tread plates and LED welcome lights that project the famous Bentley wings to the ground from the door mirrors.
The Continental GT Mulliner Convertible can be equipped with what the automaker describes as ”the top of the range ‘Naim for Bentley’ audio system” which has 18 speakers and is driven by a 2200W, 20-channel amplifier, and eight sound modes.
The cars will be available with a Bentley V8 or W12 powertrain. The six-litre, twin-turbo, W12 can reach 100km/h in 3.7sec and , the Continental GT Mulliner Convertible accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.8sec and is capable of 333km/h).
The four-litre, twin-turbo, can deliver 318km/h and 0-100km/h in 4.1sec.
