JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Official South African Ferrari dealer Scuderia South Africa has unveiled the Italian brand’s F8 Spider during a preview at a new showroom here in South Africa.
”The F8 Spider,” Ferrari says, ”sets benchmarks for usable performance and exceptional handling with handling dynamics with cabin comfort that combines an eight-cylinder engine with unparalleled driving pleasure.”
ZERO TURBO LAG
The 2020 F8 Spider is said to be the newest in an automotive bloodline of open-top V8 sport cars that began with the 308 GTS in 1977. It’s said to be less extreme than the 488 Pista but sportier and more innovative than the 488 Spider which it replaces.
The newbie’s perhaps greatest achievement, its maker says, is its total lack of turbo ”lag” ”while retaining its unique and very special exhaust note”. The car’s performance and handling come from, Ferrari adds, the integration of a series of innovative, track-derived, aero solutions.

”The engine.” Ferrari told The Corner, ”is a development of the V8 that won the International Engine of the Year Award for four consecutive years (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) and was named as the best engine of the previous two decades.
”The 2020 F8 Spider replaces the 488 Spider and improves on all aspects of that model’s specs: its engine delivers an extra 36kW, the car is 20kg lighter to weigh only 20kg more than the more extreme 488 Pista Spider, and is significantly more aerodynamic.”
