TORRANCE, California – Honda’s awesome 2020 Gold Wing touring supermotorcycle can soon (in the US, at least) be equipped with Android Auto at no additional cost so new owners with Android 5.0 or later smartphones and the Android Auto app will be able enjoy music, phone calls and messaging.
While aboard their Gold Wing, connection with a Bluetooth headset (sold separately) will also be required and app and communication costs may apply. How to upgrade will be announced (US) mid-June 2020.
The Gold Wing GL1000 went on sale in North America in 1975 but since then, the bikemaker says, has been Honda’s flagship model for more than four decades. The current model (pictured) was announced in the US and its arrival there made it the first motorcycle with Apple CarPlay.
Satnav features and application-specific services have, Honda US says, been well-received.
Android Auto is a simple way for riders (and their pillion) to use a phone on the motorcycle. With simplified interface and easy-to-use voice activation, it was designed to minimise distraction so riders can stay focused on the road. Android Auto makes it easy to access favorite music, media and messaging apps while riding.
”With Google Assistant on Android Auto,” Honda says, ”riders can stay focused, connected, and entertained without taking eyes off the road or hands off the ‘bars with voice only to help with their day.
”Honda plans, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration coming to more models, to bring more comfort and convenience to riders’ motorcycle lifestyles worldwide.
