YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nissan has introduced its all-new Ariya, an electric crossover SUV with phenomenal claimed range and ”greater driving excitement, confidence, comfort, and connectivity”
”The batteries-only car,” Nissan promises, ”has powerful acceleration and smooth, quiet, operation. Occupants and can relax and enjoy the ride thanks to autonomous driving technology, concierge-level assistance, seamless connectivity and a spacious, lounge-like, cabin.”

The car’s estimated range could cover as much as 610km on one charge.
CEO Makoto Uchida and chief operating officer Ashwani Gupta unveiled the Ariya to a global audience during a live-streamed event at Nissan Pavilion in Yokohama.
‘A NEW LEVEL’
Gupta said during the event: “The Ariya is a truly remarkable car. It can go further, easier, in comfort and make owners’ lives better.”
The cars will go on sale first in Japan in mid-2021 for the equivalent of about R772 000. Nissan says the will take zero-emissions vehicles to ”a new level”.
Buyers, the automaker adds, will be able to choose from a number of configurations – among them two-wheel drive and e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive with a choice of battery capacity.

”The e-4ORCE all-wheel control system,” Nissan told The Corner, ”will balance powerful performance with all-weather capability. Two electric motors will provide a balanced and predictable ride with sport-car power delivered in the blink of an eye.”

The Ariya is also said to be the most technologically advanced Nissan car yet with advanced driving assistance system using ProPILOT parking and road progress covered by all-round surveillance to supply colliision warnings, and emergency braking.
Natural speech will activate settings while Amazon’s Alexa handles the office diary and drivers’ lives.

- The car’s flat floor and simple aircon is more of a lounge than a conveyance. Gupta again: ”It’s more than just a great EV crossover, it’s a great vehicle. It’s a true force of wonder, and it’s coming soon.”
