NEW DELHI, India – Kia Motors India has revealed at a Delhi auto show an image of a new compact mini-SUV badged (at least for now) as the Sonet.
Kia boldly says the model ”is intended to set design benchmarks and inject a new dynamism in the compact SUV segment when it is revealed around Christmastime 2020”.
The car is said to combine Kia features such as its now well-known ”tiger’s nose” grille and, though a small car, ”its rugged appeal”.

Karim Habib, head of Kia’s design centre, enlarged: “We wanted to give the Sonet the strong and muscular character found in much larger vehicles so aimed for a sporty attitude, a confident stance, and a dynamic silhouette.
”There will also be a selection of colours and materials inspired by Indian culture.”
SECOND FROM INDIA
The Sonet will be the Kia’s second ‘Made in India’ car; the other, the Seltos, arrived in South Africa recently. Overall, Kia says the Sonet will be marketed to the younger generation ”who are tech-savvy, aspirational, and socially connected”.
The media material did not include all-wheel drive in the little SUV’s biography.
The media release adds: ”The Sonet will stand out not only because of its eye-catching design but also because of excellent build quality, class-leading features, connectivity innovations, choice of power trains, and comprehensive safety equipment.
