JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Sales of pre-owned Ford Ranger bakkies are in top spot overall in AutoTrader’s annual Car Industry Report and are fifth as the most-searched vehicle in South Africa through June and July 2020.
The Ranger contributed 4.7% of all used cars sold in South Africa and generated 8.3-million searches in the same period. It is also, Ford SA says, consistently one of the best-selling new vehicles in South Africa.
The AutoTrader report lists makes and models and variants (including trim) are important to potential buyers.
George Mienie, AutoTrader’s CEO, told The Corner in a media release: “Top-selling used Ranger is the 2.2TDCi Double Cab Hi-Rider XL. It’s the most popular Ranger by far and, on average sells for about R260 670 after about 90 800km.
”It’s especially popular in Gauteng and double-cabs are the most-wanted.”
TWO-THIRDS OF MARKET
The Ford EcoSport and Fiesta were also in AutoTrader’s top 10 tagles, the EcoSport being the only compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) to fare so well.
Eben Swart, Ford Approved manager for southern Africa, added: “The used-vehicle market accounts for two-thirds of all vehicles sold in South Africa – an exceptionally important retail segment.”
