Binder Bros tried hard again – but no double win in Spain

BARCELONA, Spain – South Africa’s hopes of a double win from Catalunya on Sunday didn’t materialise but a great ride by Brad Binder’s younger brother Darryn raised hopes by his winning the Moto3 race.

Brother Brad tried hard but made it only to 11th in the premier race after a series of crashes marred the event – something The Corner believes is happening too often – especially as there is a growing belief that visor tear-offs are to blame.

The premier race was won by Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo – his third of the year – to put him back on top of the points table. He also won in Jerez.

“My tyre was nearly destroyed,” Quartararo told Reuters after he won by less than a second.

Quartararo now leads the championship with 108 points, eight more than Mir but 18 clear of Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales.

Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso crashed just after the start. in the first turn on the opening lap after he started 17th on the grid. The Italian has now dropped to fourth in the standings, 24 points back.

Rossi was chasing a 200th win but crashed – as he did ain the previous race too.

The next race will be in France on October 11.
