HIROSHIMA, Japan – Mazda MX-30 has been named Design Car of the Year, a new award created for the 2020 Japanese Car of the Year awards.
The MX-30’s design, the automaker told The Corner, was based on a concept called “Human Modern” and challenged the development of a new expression for Kodo – Soul of Motion design.
”The exterior is uncompromisingly simple,” Mazda emphasised. ‘The MX-30’s styling creates a friendly appearance, the cabin design and freestyle doors express light. The interior aims to give occupants a sense of bathing in openness with a floating console and unique materials.”
The MX-30 has been introduced, its maker says, for Mazda’s 100th anniversary.
Ikuo Maeda, Mazda’s design boss, said: “In 2010 we started to apply Kodo design. As we strove to mature Kodo design we were able to create a new direction – and will continue to take pride in being a Japanese brand committed to further improve Mazda design.”
