PRETORIA, South Africa – Land Rover Classic is continuing the expedition legacy of the original Defender with a limited production run of adventure-ready Defender Works V8 Trophy vehicles for an exclusive competition at Eastnor Castle in 2021.
They’re based on the re-engineered 2012-2016 Defender Works V8 specification developed by Land Rover Classic: a 298kW/515Nm 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine, eight-speed ZF auto transmission and comprehensively uprated suspension, steering, and braking packages.
They will also have a number of upgrades for off-road.
The 25 examples will be assembled in a mix of 90 and 110 wagon bodies, will be finished in a unique Eastnor Yellow paint colour with 16” steel wheel rims with contrasting black features on the wheel arches, bonnet, and tail door.
Also added will be diode headlights, a Heritage grille, unique Trophy badging, and event participation graphics personalised per customer.
”The vehicles,” Landy says, ”were designed to tackle the most demanding of endurance challenges. Additional all-terrain kit includes a front winch, multi-point expedition cage, roof rack, underbody protection, raised air-intake, diode spotlights and mud-capable tyres.
Each will have black leather upholstery on the Recaro seats, yellow contrast stitching, and a Land Rover Trophy clock face.
Later this year (subject to COVID-19 restrictions) trophy buyers will be invited to compete in a three-day adventure at Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire – long used for all-terrain driver training, testing and development – another first for buyers.
It’s also popular as a wedding venue – perhaps a double occasion for buyers? – Editor
Dan Pink, Land Rover Classic’s director, told The Corner in a media release: “The Defender has always been more than just a vehicle – its suitability for overland travel and all-terrain competitions means it’s renowned with getting away from it all.
”This Trophy will bring this to life for a new generation of adventurers.
“The whole concept came directly from owners’ feedback… they wanted to create their own stories, earn battle scars and patina, with their Works V8 Trophy vehicle to fuel campfire chats with like-minded enthusiasts.
“Conquering the Eastnor hills will be a defining event.”
Customers and their co-drivers will add their names and national flags to the vehicle then tackle a range of challenges.
Expert one-on-one tuition will teach driving techniques and skills before putting their training to the test to earn prizes – including a grand prize for the overall winner.
Prices for the special vehicles start at £195 000 for a 90 in the UK.
Defender Works V8 Trophy is available in the UK, Europe, MENA, Africa and Oceania on an individual import basis, subject to rules on importation of vehicle conversions.
