JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Volvo Cars is fundamentally changing how and where to meet its customers and will transform the current wholesale model by moving online and with strong customer relationships.
It aims to be a global fully-electric company by 2030 and will launch a completely new family of battery cars – all of which will only be available online.
The company will invest heavily in online sales, radically reduce complexity in its product list, and set transparent pricing models while focusing on a complete customer offering, all under a ‘Care by Volvo’ umbrella.
Lex Kerssemakers, head of global commercial operations, told The Corner: “The future of Volvo Cars will stand on three pillars: electric, online, growth. We want to offer peace of mind by removing the complexity of buying and driving the car.
”Simplification and convenience will be key to everything we do.”
The strategy will, Volvo says, focus on the fastest-growing segment in the global car industry: the premium electric market. Volvo Cars is committed to becoming a leader in this segment and will focus on developing only on electric cars.
While Volvo Cars is investing heavily in online sales platforms it adds that it will build stronger customer relationships and continue to be responsible for selling, preparing, delivering and servicing cars.
Kerssemakers again: “On- and off-line must be integrated and the customer experience must be top-notch.
” ‘Care by Volvo’, until recently the name for Volvo Cars’ subscription service, will be expanded into a broader customer offer. An electric Volvo bought online will come with a care package that includes items such servicing, warranty, roadside assistance, and insurance and home-charging options.”
Volvo cars.com, the automaker says, will radically simplify the process for, and reduce the number of, steps involved in signing for an electric Volvo.
Customers, Volvo says, will be able to choose from attractive pre-configured electric Volvos ready for simple and convenient ordering and quick delivery.
Further convenience and simplification will come through transparent and set pricing to eliminate the negotiations, increase transparency. and build trust.
