CENTURION, South Africa – Indian automaker Mahindra is launching several ”special edition” versions of its Pik Up bakkies and light trucks and one of them is the Karoo S11 a/t. That’s it up above… Smart, hey?
The matte black lifestyle double-cab has been based on the S11 Karoo and fitted with the ”best-on-offer” from the Mahindra parts catalogue and a few other thing not available to other Pik Up owners.
Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra SA, told The Corner: “The Karoo has a special place in SA culture. It is simultaneously known for the hard and unforgiving landscape and the openness of its hard-working inhabitants.
“Which is why we created the original Pik Up Karoo. Now we’re stepping it up with the Karoo Dusk.”
SILVER HIGHLIGHTS, ALLOY RIMS
Primarily, it’s lifestyle double-cab wrapped in a hard-wearing, matte-black, film unique to the Pik Up based on the S11 Karoo flagship: same styling bar on the load bed, side steel steps, and robust over-fenders, all colour-coded to match the dark look of the Dusk.
Highlights on the front fender vents, diamond-plated rear step, and silver highlights on the alloy wheel rims contrast with the overall dark design.
Mahindra further tasked its designers to create a special dark-blue for the Dusk decals and distinctive acacia tree in the Karoo logo and the package rolls on special 17”, machined, off-road, black and silver, alloy wheel rims fitted with General mud terrain tyres.
ALL THE GEAR FOR HEAVY OFF-ROADING
Off-road machined steel bumpers add functionality for technical off-roading by increasing the approach/departure angles and exposing larger sections of the off-road tyres to the road – or other! – routes.
The rear bumper doubles as a heavy-duty step but has mounting points for a high-lift jack, extra heavy-duty recovery loops, and a towball. A flush-mounted electric connection is standard.
The bumper has been given special attention. Aside from the assertive profile, it has a powder-coated steel bush-bar to protect the front headlights. It also has diode lights, recovery loops, and jack points.
TOUCH-SCREEN INFO UNIT
A special engineering team, Mahindra says, has created a special off-road suspension unique to the Dusk. It has heavy-duty, gas-filled, off-road, shock-absorbers, heavy-duty custom leaf springs and new suspension bushes.
”While these upgrades do not change the Karoo Dusk’s ground clearance,” the automaker says, ”they ensure faultless performance on dirt, rock, sand and through mud while not adversely affecting its road manners.”
Cabin features include a touch-screen infotainment system carrying built-in reversing camera, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also present are cruise control, aircon, multi-function steering-wheel, and power windows.
…AND SO TO THE PRICE
The Mahindra Karoo Dusk S11 a/t costs about R550 000 and will be delivered with a four-year or 120 000km* mechanical warranty and five-year or 90 000km* service plan.
*Whichever comes first.
