VWSA tops 100 000 Polo Vivo units

KARIEGA (pre-ANC Uitenhage), South Africa – VWSA has started 2022 ”on a strong note” by celebrating production of the Polo Vivo.

”The car,” VW told The Corner, ”was completed on January 25, four years after the plant began assembling the current Vivo range. Before then it assembled the first generation Vivo from 2010-17 – 254 683 units.

”That means the plant has assembled 354 000 Vivos.”

The Vivo is made in SA for the local market and has been rewarded by becoming the best-selling vehicle in the passenger vehicle market every year since its introduction in 2010 – 350 289 Vivos between 2010 and 2021, of which 251 726 were during the first generation and 98 563 of the current.

The best annual sales performance for the current Vivo came in 2019 – the year when VWSA sold 29 618 Vivos, In terms of monthly performance, the model was most popular in October 2018… 3 009 deliveries.

The Vivo is one of two vehicles being built in South Africa – the other is the long-running Polo for export to all right-hand drive markets worldwide. It also, however, supplements demand from LHD nations.

Ulrich Schwabe, VWSA’s production director, added a comment for The Corner: “This milestone means a lot to our teams throughout the company. Given the challenges of our industry and Covid – a proud moment that has set the tone for a successful coming year.”
