Audi’s e-tron brand officially launched in South Africa during a ‘Night of Progress’ in Cape Town attended by media and celebrities for a look-see and drives in an Audi RS e-tron GT.
Audi claims to be the first premium auto brand to launch a pure electric vehicle range in SA and an e-tron 55 First Edition model will be available in the second half of 2022, priced from R1 745 000.
CAPE TOWN, South Africa – Zeitz MOCAA, in the shadow of mighty Table Mountain and within South Africa’s largest museum of contemporary African art, Audi has celebrated the arrival of its fully-electric e-tron range of personal transport.
Several models are included: e-tron 55 SUV, e-tron 55 Sportback and S Sportback , and high-performance models e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT.
Audi’s Night of Progress hosted 170 automotive faces, news media, celebrities, VIPs, and friends of the brand – Carman’s Corner and its editor must have missed the call… we can be hurt just like ordinary people.
HERE’S THE BEST-SELLERS
Whatever, had I been there, I would have heard the (relatively) new boss of Audi SA, Sascha Sauer, tell the crowd and the six battery buggies on show, that the brand has has the most the most pure-electric choices and to have, through 2021, increased sales by 58% year-on-year.
Audi has sold more than 52 000 batteries-on-wheels units globally – two-thirds of total Audi electric vehicle sales – the best-sellers being the e-tron and e-tron Sportback range.
“From 2022,’’ Sauer told the party: ‘’Audi SA is committed to growing its e-tron range with a new model a year. We’ve also partnered with GridCars to build SA’s largest and fastest public vehicle-charging network in the country.’’
So, to more about the battery buggies and their launch…:
Audi e-tron 55 First Edition units, The Corner was informed, will be available in SA in limited numbers from June 2022 through 10 e-tron outlets nationwide priced from (take a deep breath, dear reader!) for R1 745 000, backed by a five-year or 100 000km (whichever comes first) Audi Freeway maintenance plan. The propulsion battery will carry an eight-year or 160 000km (wcf) warranty.
