Classics on parade for ‘Cape beautiful drive’

CAPE TOWN, South Africa – The first Cape 1000, a classic-car rally tribute to Italy’s Mille Miglia, will be run on the scenic roads of South Africa’s Western Cape from Tuesday, March 8- 13 2022.

Organiser Ross Crichton told The Corner: “We’re grateful for support from the South African classic-car community with 36 rare cars ranging from a 1956 Porsche 356 to a modern McLaren 720S. It promises to be a memorable experience for participants and the public

“We encourage petrolheads to follow the event on social media (Instagram @TheCape1000) and for real by travelling to dedicated viewing locations.”


Registration will be on Tuesday March 8 at the Cape Town Waterfront’s Victoria & Alfred Museum from 2-5pm.

Crichton again: “Visitors will be welcome not only then but also the next day from 8am at the Waterfront’s Silo Museum.

The drive will travel for four days through Hermanus, Franschhoek and St. Helena Bay stopovers before returning to Cape Town on March 12.

Other viewing spots and times:


8:45am – Camps Bay, Victoria Road and 11am Clarence Drive, Gordon’s Bay


9am – Gearing’s Point, Hermanus


8:30am – Franschhoek Main Road, Franschhoek


3:15pm – Silo Museum, V&A Waterfront
