60 years of James Bond – see the spy shots…

MAHWAH, New Jersey – This year, 2022, marks the 60th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise so Land Rover entered a rally-prepared and suitably liveried Defender 90 for the 2022 Bowler Defender Challenge with Mark Higgins for a leg in Wales, UK, on March 26.

Higgins, three-times British Rally champion and Bond stunt driver, brought his return to rallying with co-driver Claire Williams. He was at the wheel in four James Bond films – Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre and No Time to Die.

The special Defender 90 has the black-and-gold stealth Bond livery with a ‘007 60th’ logo on itsrof and both flanks .

He told The Corner via a media communication: “The New Defender is tough and capable. I saw it perform challenging stunts on the set of No Time To Die but with modern race-ready enhancements and Claire navigating we were confident of a great result.”

The competition-ready Bond Defender is based on a 2022 Defender 90 with a P300 Ingenium powertrain and safety modifications – among them a rollover cage, enhanced engine and transmission cooling, a sport exhaust, and new rear roof spoiler.

Further enhancements were strengthened 18″ Bowler wheel rims, all-terrain tyres, and a modified suspension.

Finbar McFall, Land Rover’s brand director, had earlier told The Corner: “To celebrate Land Rover’s long-running association with the Bond franchise we gave the nod to a special appearance in ‘No Time To Die’,”

  • Regulated by the Motor Sports Association and operated by Bowler, the 12-team 2022 Bowler Defender Challenge was designed to be a feeder series for global rally-raid competition, including the Dakar.
