- Modern design in upper-midrange SUV market
- Does any other SUV have so many ‘extras’?
- Serious (and minor!) crash protection
CAPE TOWN, South Africa – The Tiggo 7 Pro has landed in South Africa to complete the Chery Pro range and, the automaker says, “bring technology, luxury, and modern design to the upper-midrange SUV market”.
The launch follows that of the Tiggo 4 Pro and the Tiggo 8 Pro and, The Corner was told, will slot in between them with two versions – Distinctive and Executive – on showroom floors.
Chery says it now has a complete memu of luxury SUVs ranging offering from a compact and sporty (Tiggo 4 Pro), larger and more luxurious five-seat SUV (Tiggo 7 Pro) and flagship with seven seats and luxury interior (Tiggo 8 Pro).
Tony Liu, a general manager of Chery SA, told us “We reserve the PRO tag for our best SUVs – the 7 Pro is no exception. Customers will never feel compromised on luxury, specifications, and performance.
Tiggo 7 Pro design language is said to be seen in the hexagonal grille with its three-dimensional diamond-shaped brightwork, and elongated front lights that run left/right from the grille.
The 7 Pro has unique 18” alloy rims (red brake callipers on Executive) and a sweeping curve in profile. The unusual glasshouse (privacy glass) is framed in a black and chrome to create a “floating” roof design.
At the rear, an edge-to-edge lightbar taillight is only interrupted by bold Chery logo. The roof-mounted spoiler and dual faux exhaust surrounds are standard.
Distinctive and the Executive units have powered adjustable, foldable, and heatable external mirrors equipped with diode indicators. All lights are LEDs and switch on automatically. – as do diodes for the sills.
Chery has laid claim to what it describes as “some of the most modern and efficient internal combustion engines – and the Tiggo 7 Pro is no exception”. Each has a 1.5-litre, quad-valve, turbo-petrol, four-cylinder engine capable of 108kW at 5500rpm and 210Nm from 1750-4500rpm.
It all goes to the front wheels through a constantly variable nine-speed auto transmission.
The driver’s seat has six-way electric adjustment (the Executive adds four-way power adjustment for the front passenger) and the leather-clad steering wheel has controls for infotainment and voice commands with three large digital displays.
As with the other Pro models, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro comes with voice command for aircon and sunroof and windows that allows for full control of the cabin, climate control and even the one-touch electric windows and (on the Executive model) the operation of the electric panoramic sunroof.
All Tiggo 7 Pro models have wireless phone-charging, multiple choices of ambient lighting top end crash protection – that last supported by child-seat anchors. The Executive adds lane departure and collision warning, and auto braking,
All Tiggo 7 Pro models have an alarm and immobiliser, remote locking, window closing and a power tail door with programmable height adjustment. The boot has up to 475 litres boot capacity.
All Chery Tiggo 7 Pro units will be delivered with a five-year or 60 000km (wcf) service plan, five–year unlimited kilometre roadside assistance programme, five-year or 150 000km (wcf) general mechanical warranty, and the option of a comprehensive 10-year/million-kilometre engine warranty.
