Heads up! Suzuki’s high-spec Baleno now on sale

CAPE TOWN, South Africa – The all-new Suzuki Baleno is now in auto showrooms with, Suzuki says, “everything that luxury hatchback customers could desire”.

Suzuki Auto SA will introduce four models, each claiming “a high level of safety and luxury” in all models and the option of manual or auto transmission in both spec levels.

Suzuki introduced the Baleno to the world in February 2022 and shared its language – calling it ‘Crafted Futurism’ with a mix of organic and dynamic lines, large and striking lights.

Suzuki designers then added new design elements – note the wider front air intake, three-dimensional grille and flowing body lines that connect with the chrome brightwork in one continuous swoop – that not only create a hint of things to come.

More spec – Suzuki GL and GLX – claim to be uncontested luxury leaders in its segment. Most importantly, the boost in specifications was not only kept for the GLX model.

In the GL manual and auto versions Suzuki has added aircon with rear vents instead of the former aircon system via a new centre armrest with storage box between the front occupants.

The GL also benefits from powered adjustable and foldable external mirrors, cruise control, and three USB ports one up front, and two rear. Standard are remote central locking, rear-parking radar, a 12V accessory socket, and a 19cm info and entertainment set.

Crash protection includes two front restraint bags, child-seat anchors, theft alarm and immobiliser.P

PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS

The GLX – perhaps rare in the Baleno’s grouping – also has a head-up display, 360-degree monitor that includes a bird’s-eye view of the vehicle and its surroundings.

The GLX also adds projector headlights and diode daytime lights. Wheel rims are 16” polished alloys. Cabin furnishing is lavish: pop-up info screen, head-up display, and the GLX’ s “very long” list of standard specifications.

Suzuki has added a second full-colour 4.2” display to the instrument cluster where the driver can view a range of vehicle information sources.

The GLX also adds footwell and boot lighting in the footwells and luggage area, and puddle lighting in the doors. Four more crash cushions have been installed.
