PORT SHEPSTONE, South Africa – The 2022 floods in KZN have caused a second postponement of African Bike Week Festival until April 27 2023.
Organiser Vicky Wenzel told the media: “Much work had been done on the roads but it was undone by the second flood in May.
“We took counsel from our safety and security organiser and understand the difficulty for the tourism industry which relies events we bring to the South Coast. Bringing in 18 000 bikers from across Africa to our road network would be extremely dangerous.
“We will have to wait until infrastructure repairs are done.”
Sikhumbuzo Mqadi of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality admitted the decision was for the best. “It would be reckless to host any motorcycle event. The safety of the public is a priority so we’ll work hard to prepare for the new dates.”
