Warm-up or not? Here’s the best answer…

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – During winter many drivers may feel warming up their vehicle is necessary on cold mornings. New technology says it is not necessary in newer cars; older models might still require it, but be careful.

MasterDrive’s Eugene Herbert says the debate is worth discussion: “In 2019, in the UK, more than 84 000 cars were stolen – 11% of them because the driver left the ignition keys in an idling car.

“It’s highly unlikely that the same can be said of South Africa’s statistics because our higher crime levels mean few drivers leave the key in an unattended vehicle but it”s still important to pay attention to these stats.”

If you do warm-up your vehicle there are safer ways to do it. “The best is to drive slowly for the first few kilometres.”.
