CAPE TOWN, South Africa – Volvo SA has announced prices for its upcoming XC40 P6 Recharge to punt its new single-motor model as “the most affordable all-electric luxury vehicle on the local market”.
Units will be available exclusively online through a My Volvo website from R1 075 000 from July 26 2022 though a limited number will be offered, with priority given to the existing waiting list.
Cars are scheduled to arrive in South Africa later in 2022.
Greg Maruszewski, managing director at Volvo Car SA said it was important for the Swedish automaker to provide those local consumers looking to make the switch away from combustion engines with a viable alternative to the local market’s assortment of far higher-priced electric vehicles.
HIGH-VOLTAGE TWIN MOTOR
He added: “The appetite for electric cars in South Africa is growing steadily, as has been shown by the popularity of our first battery-powered offering, the twin-motor XC40 P8 Recharge AWD. As with that model, we worked hard to bring in this P6 variant at an attractive price point.”
The XC40 P6 Recharge, The Corner was told, has been rated to travel up to 423km* on a charge thanks to its low-mounted, high-voltage, 69kW lithium-ion battery pack sorting an 11 kW onboard charger as standard.
The motor, The Corner was told, is permanently sealed, maintenance-free, and mounted on the front axle to drive the front wheels with a maximum output of 170kW/330Nm that can launch the car to 100km/h in 7.4sec.
BIGGER WHEELS OPTION
A bonus is that it has a braked towing capacity of 1500kg – the same as that of its more powerful twin-motor sister. The only options are a sunroof and heatable seats and steering-whee. Standard are wireless smartphone charging, parking radar front and rear, a reversing camera and the latest Android-powered touchscreen infotainment system complete with built-in Google apps and services.
Customers may also choose to upgrade to 20″ wheel rims from the standard 19″.
Volvo’s signature suite of safety features as well as the Pilot Assist driver support system are also included in the purchase price, along with a Volvo CARE package – afive-year maintenance plan and warranty, three years of comprehensive insurance, use of a petrol car for two weeks a year for three years, a public charge cable, pand a wallbox home charger.
‘NEARING GLOBAL AMBITION’
All-new exterior paint colour choices include Fjord Blue and Bright Dusk along with Silver Dawn – a popular shade also offered in the XC60 range.
